Teaching Philosophy
My mail goal is to ensure the student loves the clarinet. One of the great successes I experience as a teacher is knowing my students enjoy playing; My entire philosophy boils down to that. Whether that means playing fun and exciting music, moving at a fast pace, or whatever they call for. Each lesson will be special to that student.
As much as I would love each and every one of my students go on to pursue a career in music, I know that is not the goal for everyone. With that being said, I aim to teach life skills in lessons. These skills include time management, work ethic, detail orientation, and problem solving skills.
Long term vs. Short term goals. The first thing I want to know about a student is what their long term and short term goals are. This is an essential step for the student’s success in lessons. After this, we can begin to work and each lesson will be tailored to what the student wants to achieve.
No two students are the same. While I have goals for students to reach while studying under me, none of them will be tied to the age of the student. Since each student learns at their own pace, every goal will be individual to them.
Testimonials
“My son has studied saxophone (first alto, then tenor) with Hunter for about a year now, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results! Hunter is top-notch in every way: kind, patient, accessible and professional. He’s an incredibly skilled educator and a fantastic artist in his own right, and his love of music and education shines through in every single lesson. My son feels like Hunter is a friend, and he is eager to see him each week. For those looking for a woodwind teacher, I would quickly and easily — and with the utmost enthusiasm — recommend Hunter for the job. As my son is headed for high school in the fall, we hope that Hunter will be in our universe for a long time to come. If anyone would like to further discuss Hunter’s many attributes, I’m more than happy to discuss! Warm regards to all.”
“I can’t say enough about the lessons Hunter held for my daughter in her first year of playing the clarinet. She learned so much and grew as a student under his instruction. She is excited to continue with the clarinet in 7th grade and with further lessons!”
“My son has been taking clarinet lessons with Hunter for about 2 years. When he first started the clarinet, he quickly became uninspired with it and the pandemic only made it worse. Working with Hunter showed him a new appreciation for the clarinet and his weekly lessons are now his most enjoyable time with the instrument. He sounds terrific and he is proud of himself for coming so far along with it. Hunter has done a terrific job with him!”
